Vodafone

360° connectivity on the other side of the globe

As Vodafone New Zealand prepared to move into its new 18,000m² smart campus in Auckland, they partnered with aAomic to create an intelligent mobile platform that would empower employees to navigate, connect, and thrive within a highly connected workspace. The result was VLife, a future-ready app that unifies building systems, simplifies employee journeys, and transforms the smart campus experience.

The challenge

Creating a seamless, smart workspace experience across an 18,000m² campus

With the move to a new headquarters underway, Vodafone New Zealand needed a way to help its workforce quickly adapt to a complex, tech-enabled environment.

The goal wasn’t simply to provide orientation, it was to give employees a single, unified tool that connected them with the building, their colleagues, and key workplace functions. This meant overcoming the challenge of integrating numerous building systems, assets, and data sources into one cohesive, user-friendly platform that could support day-to-day productivity while elevating the entire employee experience.

The solution

Designing a fully connected app that blends smart technology with everyday simplicity

Atomic responded by designing and developing VLife, a mobile app built natively for both iOS and Android, serving as an intelligent digital companion for employees.

During an in-depth discovery and technical planning phase, the team worked closely with Vodafone to understand the unique operational and cultural needs of the campus. VLife integrated seamlessly with a range of internal systems through custom API development, enabling real-time wayfinding using over 400 physical beacons, smart booking of resources such as desks, lockers, and gym equipment, and even café ordering and payment via geofencing triggers.

Behind the scenes, the app was powered by a dynamic, scalable backend capable of handling live location data, user-specific content delivery, and ongoing operational insight.

The interface was designed with simplicity and clarity at its core, ensuring that even the most advanced features felt natural and easy to use, turning a potentially overwhelming workplace into a smooth and intuitive environment.

The outcome

From Auckland to Christchurch: A blueprint for smarter workplaces

VLife has had a lasting impact on Vodafone’s workforce, enhancing efficiency, boosting wellbeing, and providing rich data to optimise building usage.

The app’s success in Auckland led to its rollout at Vodafone’s Christchurch campus, embedding VLife as a cornerstone of the company’s smart workplace strategy. Employees now experience smoother, more productive workdays in a space that learns and adapts with them.
