The challenge
Transforming a legacy platform into a global telematics powerhouse
JCB’s existing LiveLink platform needed a fundamental overhaul to support modern fleet management at scale.
With machines transmitting massive volumes of real-time data from multiple sources, including different hardware types and inconsistent data formats, the challenge was twofold: build a platform that could ingest, clean, and interpret these complex datasets, and deliver that information in a way that was meaningful and accessible to users ranging from on-site operators to senior asset managers.
All this had to be delivered across web, iOS, and Android platforms, with performance and usability at global scale.
Atomic helped us translate our ambition into a solid technical plan. Their advice gave our internal team the insight they needed to scale fast and optimise spend.

The solution
Engineering a connected, scalable system for precision fleet control
Atomic led a comprehensive product strategy, UX design, and technical re-architecture of the LiveLink system.
Built on cloud-native infrastructure, the platform ingests high-frequency telemetry data from over half a million machines, covering GPS location, fuel usage, CO₂ emissions, usage metrics, and maintenance status. Advanced machine-led algorithms were implemented to interpolate incomplete data and detect patterns, enabling the system to surface early warnings for potential faults before they cause downtime.
The intuitive user interface allows users to customise reports, filter key metrics, and visualise fleet-wide performance in real time. With fully integrated mobile apps for iOS and Android, operators can report faults instantly, track machine usage on the go, and collaborate seamlessly with maintenance teams.
The outcome
A smarter, more sustainable future for global fleet operations
The new LiveLink platform is now deployed across JCB’s global customer base and is actively used on major infrastructure projects including HS2, where it helps partners like Balfour Beatty track emissions and increase operational efficiency.
By transforming raw telemetry into actionable insight, the system enables real-time visibility, predictive maintenance, and smarter deployment of idle machinery.
From enhanced sustainability reporting to reduced downtime and cost savings, LiveLink has become an indispensable tool for modern fleet management, delivering value at every level of operations.
