Rolls-Royce
Taking UX to new heights
The challenge
Iconic Aerospace brand, Rolls-Royce appointed Atomic as their chosen UI/UX partner to redesign a suite of web applications for their Business Aviation division. The apps would be used by high-profile business customers to gain critical engine health and maintenance information. The UX therefore had to be slick and intuitive, enabling users to quickly access and interpret critical engine health data.
The solution
Our approach began with an in-depth phase of discovery to define the unique requirements of each application for both customers and Rolls-Royce internal stakeholders. We produced rapid prototypes to allow users to test and validate every design decision. Once proven, a comprehensive Design System was built to provide the development teams with a consistent suite of design components and style sheets.
The outcome
The project concluded with the handover of the Design System, along with a phase of design consultation alongside the development teams. This ensured the integrity of the designs was retained and any iterations could be carried out in an agile fashion, without compromising usability standards.
A user-centric design strategy
We conducted extensive research to benchmark all of our design decisions. This included experience mapping of current products and interviews with subject matter experts, both in the UK and the US.
A seamless design process
From mid-fidelity wireframes to final UI components and style sheets, we developed a flexible and scalable Design System that helped maximise efficiency when progressing to development.
