It’s the people that power Atomic

It’s the people that power Atomic

Last month saw one of our long standing team members celebrate their 10 year work-anniversary at Atomic. We know that what makes Atomic great is our people, but we were curious to know what Steve felt about his time here and what has kept him with us for a over a decade. So we asked him…

When did your Atomic journey begin?

I came to Atomic in 2012 as a PHP Developer in the Web Team.

What persuaded you to join Atomic?

I decided to join Atomic because I felt it offered me the opportunity to make a real impact. The company was growing fast and having looked into the work they were doing at the time and hearing their plans for the future, I saw it had fantastic potential and I wanted to get on board.

I could see that at Atomic I’d have the chance to learn a lot of different disciplines and really grow in the role. I’d get the chance to be involved in many different projects and get a lot of variety, which was really appealing to me.

Did the job live up to your expectations?

Definitely. I can’t quite believe it’s been 10 years already to be honest (where do the years go?) but when I look back on the projects I’ve been involved in, I realise that I’ve certainly had the variety I was looking for.

I’ve been involved in developing the JCB Hub app, which has become one of JCB’s most valuable sales tools; the Scania Handover app, and even established dedicated teams for both QA and Support. I was also lucky enough to work in a multi-discipline team that developed the VLife mobile app, which helped Vodafone employees get the most out of their new state-of-the-art ‘Smart’ building in New Zealand. This was a great project to be involved in and even saw some of the team travel over to Auckland to install way-finder beacons in the building to support the app. It’s been quite a journey!

What has kept you at Atomic for 10 years?

The people! I’ve really enjoyed the work but it’s definitely the people who make Atomic what it is. I can honestly say that I get on with everyone I work with and there’s never a dull moment!

Even though we’ve grown fast, we’ve managed to keep a really great ‘close team’ feel. We all work well together and it’s a really positive and friendly place to work. Something else I appreciate about Atomic is that the leadership team is always looking to improve things, so you do feel that the company genuinely cares and will look after you.

It’s been the best 10 years; working with great people and on a variety of projects. I’m looking forward to seeing what the next 10 years will bring!

“Thanks for being a part of the Atomic team for the last 10 years Steve. Your talent, energy, loyalty and commitment have been incredible and it’s great to have you as part of our ever-growing team. Your contributions have helped us immensely on our journey to becoming a leader in digital product innovation. Here’s to the next 10 years!”
