Atomic client has been honoured with a prestigious Global Business Technology award for our collaboration on a groundbreaking AR Smart Glasses product. The award recognises the significant contribution made by the product to accessibility in the entertainment industry.
The brainchild of Atomic client, Built For Good founders Tim Middleton, Tabitha Allum and Jonathan Suffolk, WatchWord revolutionises cinema accessibility for individuals who are deaf, deafened, and hard of hearing.
The innovative product uses wearable AR glasses supported by a mobile application, to provide personalised captions for cinemagoers with hearing loss. The glasses connect to a handheld control unit, allowing users to customise captions according to their preferences, such as text size, position, and colours. The glasses sync wirelessly to broadcasts of pre-prepared captions which are displayed on the glasses in real-time during screenings.
“With WatchWord, we envisioned a world where everyone, regardless of hearing ability, could enjoy the cinema together,” said Tim. “We knew that to achieve this vision, we needed a software development partner who shared our passion for inclusion and innovation. Atomic was the perfect fit.”
The product has already gained significant attention and accolades within the technology and entertainment industries, with successful trials completed in both US and UK cinemas.
“We are proud to be recognised for our collaboration with Built For Good on the WatchWord project,” said Andy Webber, Managing Director of Atomic. “This project exemplifies our commitment to leveraging user-centric design and technology to create positive social impact”.
