Android Developer

The role

Android Developers work within the Development team to develop and maintain software applications for the Android mobile operating system. An Android Developer is expected:

  • To collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, develop and ship advanced, bespoke Android applications
  • To work with outside/remote data sources and API specifications
  • To write automated unit and UI tests
  • To work on bug fixing and improving application performance
  • To review code written by others in the development team
  • To continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies to maximize development efficiency
  • To keep up to date with changes in mobile technology, Android releases, new and existing third-party libraries and share knowledge with the wider team


The requirements of the job will be satisfied when:

  • Features are developed to a high standard within the estimated timescales
  • The defect rate for completed features is less than 5%
  • Time and effort estimates are accurate to within +/- 15%
  • Client satisfaction is high when we ask for feedback

  • In depth knowledge of the Android operating system
  • Experience working with Android Studio
  • In depth knowledge of Java / Kotlin
  • Solid understanding of Object Oriented Programming (OOP) principles
  • Experience with Jira
  • Solid understanding of agile principles and Scrum methodologies
  • Experience with GitHub and pull request reviews
  • Experience using the following in real world applications: Retrofit2, Dagger2, automated unit testing, UI testing with Espresso.
  • Experience working with Google Firebase, specifically for push notifications, Dynamic Links and Crash reporting.

Soft Skills

  • Able to communicate clearly with team members
  • Able to explain technical concepts in simple terms
  • Able to review others’ work and give constructive feedback
