DISCOVERY & RESEARCH / EXPERIENCE MAPPING / UI & UX DESIGN
Recognising the value of good digital experience for their private business customers, Aerospace powerhouse Rolls-Royce appointed AtomicMedia as their chosen UI/UX partner and the voice of the customer to design and deliver a new suite of Business Aviation Customer Portal apps.
Delivering a suite of apps so crucial to the servicing of its private customers and the client-customer relationship meant that the new designs and user experience needed to be powerful, considered, evidenced and elite.
Our approach began with a phase of disovery and research to understand the Business Aviation subject matter, its customers and their current pain points - to help define the requirements that the Business Aviation digital products must deliver for both customers and Rolls-Royce internal stakeholders.
With a clear understanding established and at reaching a focused and evidenced brief, we then progressed with redesigning Rolls-Royce's suite of Business Aviation web applications - producing mid-fidelity wireframes through to developed UI designs and final components ready for development.
We implemented a bespoke approach of our proven and established UX processes to discover and define.
Interviews with Rolls-Royce SMEs across Europe and the United States to understand private customers needs and the current apps pain points, opportunities and requirements.
Internal review of existing Rolls-Royce Business Aviation apps, competitor products and influencing features for a design benchmark .
Creation of experience maps for the current suite of apps to visualise strengths and weaknesses and highlight opportunities for design to deliver an improved user experience.
Alignment of stakeholders with a number of remote sessions on the vision, requirements and briefs for the Business Aviation apps .
Arriving at a tested and evidenced brief, we then had the foundations required for a successful redesign of the UI and user experience of the new Business Aviation customer apps. To achieve this, we undertook the following processes:
Detailed wireframes for each product, highlighting various actions and interactive points within each product.
Organisation and running of internal, client stakeholder and development partner reviews on all products.
Developing signed-off wireframes to final UI including Rolls-Royce brand guidelines and bespoke UI components.
Creation of UI style sheets and components per app for handover in development.
Concluding with the handover of development-ready components and implementation guidelines, the project consisted of four new app solutions that successfully delivered an improved UX, elevated UI, and a modern platform for eagerly awaiting private Business Aviation customers to exist, engage and be serviced by Rolls-Royce.
